The All Star Twirling Summer Camp 2013

Our summer camp will take place June 17-21, 2013, with Robyn McDowell-Coley as Camp Director and will feature instructors Chelsea Russel, Meagan McGeary, Candy Byrd, and Laurie Mitchell Britt!

Chelsea Russel is a 23 year old graduate student at the University of Iowa . After graduating from Iowa in 2011 with a BA in English / Creative Writing and a Minor in French, Chelsea decided to pursue her Master’s degree in Secondary English Education and plans to graduate this May. Chelsea was the “Golden Girl” feature twirler for the Hawkeye Marching Band for five years of her collegiate career and she had the pleasure of serving as the coach of the new Golden Girl and Drum Major on the HMB staff this past year. Chelsea has been twirling for over twenty years. During her time as a competitor, she has won Seven World Twirling Titles, Four Miss Majorette of America titles and Five Grand National Twirling Championship titles. Most Recently, Chelsea won the 2012 Senior Rhythmic Twirl Championship, World Open Twirl-off, and Grand National Twirling Championship at AYOP last July. Although Chelsea is now retired from competitive twirling, she loves teaching baton and plans to remain involved in the sport she loves.

Megan McGeary started twirling at the age of 3 in her hometown of Altoona Pennsylvania. She attended her first AYOP in 1995 and entered the wonderful world of NBTA as a competitive baton twirler. Coming from a town filled with twirling she was lucky enough to be feature twirler at both her Jr. High and High School. During this time Megan was invited to join one of the most prestigious, legendary corps in the country. During her time with the Modernettes they won two Grand National titles as well as two TU national titles individually. In May of 2009 Megan was named the Feature Twirler for The University of Oklahoma where she twirled a wonderful 4 seasons while obtaining her undergraduate degree in Multi – Disciplinary Studies with a focus on Engineering Management and a minor n General Business. Throughout Megan’s College years she had some successes such as winning the 2012 Collegiate WOW Award and the 2012 Twirl Mania Collegiate Classic Champion. In July of 2012 after being first runner up in the 2012 and 2011 and after 20 years of work Megan won the coveted College Miss Majorette of America and snagged the WOW Award one more time. Megan is currently working at an event company in the Oklahoma City Area. After Megan’s reign is over she will be marrying the love of her life, and with his love and support she intends to start a family fitness gym where she will also offer twirling.

Candy Byrd

Candy is a 7 Time National Champion, former Feature Twirler of the University of Georgia and the former coach of the National Champion University of Georgia Majorettes. If that is not impressive enough she is the twirling Ambassador to France and Peru. She has over 25 Years of teaching experience throughout the United States with Numerous National Championship teams, students and over 30 collegiate twirlers. She is the owner of Dreams Count Performance Company located in Athens, Georgia.

Camp Director: Robyn McDowell-Coley

Robyn is the coach for All Star Twirlers, Niceville High School and Destin Middle School. 98% of Robyn’s students go on to twirl in College. Her students have won State and National Titles. Robyn was a University of Memphis Majorette where she received a full athletic scholarship for twirling. Robyn grew up in Memphis, TN where she was taught by Nancy Mitchell and Laurie Britt while under their direction she won various titles in Tennessee and Mississippi. Prior to moving to Florida Robyn taught students in Tennessee and Mississippi. She is also a NBTA judge and coach
